Day 112: Learning about literacy

Dr. Bintz, our amazing literacy consultant, was back today! And because my 9th graders were so well behaved, I even got the opportunity to sit in, enjoy, and participate in the amazing work being done with our teachers.

Today's thematic question "What makes an atomic bomb 'atomic'?" brings English, social studies, and science teachers together, and has students work on a two week project (officially called an LDC module). The pedagogical issues discussed and the way the lessons are modeled made this a highly effective workshop.

Tomorrow will be Dr. Bintz's last day with us this school year. He plans to switch gears to help our AVID and reading teachers use a strategy that allows for students to read different books in class yet still get the desired learning outcomes.
